Five Tips On Treating Your Eyes Better
Your eyes are an important part of your health. Most people rely on their eyes to see and make sense of the world around them. And just as it is important to keep your body healthy, you also need to keep your eyes healthy. Good vision helps you perform well—at home, at work, or behind the wheel. That’s why it’s important to take a few simple steps to make sure you help keep your eyesight at its best. The experts at Lumina Eye Care have written down a few tips to help you treat your eyes better so that you can be educated on the topic.
Tip #1: Take a screen break
Screens are a big part of our lives nowadays. When doing close work, take occasional breaks and rest your eyes by looking away from the digital screen. This is especially important for children, who may not make the connection between extended viewing, eyestrain, and the need to rest their eyes regularly. You all need a break from work and studies, and so do your eyes! Give them a break by following the twenty-twenty-twenty rule: every twenty minutes, look twenty feet away, for at least twenty seconds.
Tip #2: Do hot compressions
Doing hot compresses is like giving your eyes a spa! A compress is soothing. It can make your eye feel better right away. Try to do it once a day, for five-ten minutes. Remember to use something that stays warm for it to be effective (i.e., repeatable eye masks). This would help the oil glands in your lids to secrete better and help with dry eyes. If you have redness or discomfort from pinkeye or another infection, a hot compress can give you quick relief. With Muscle spasms or pain, the wet warmth can relax your eye.
Tip #3: Eat your veggies
Your eyes like more than just carrots! Dark leafy greens and fruits with antioxidants can help keep your eyes healthy as well. Eating more fruits and vegetables can help protect against eye disease and help your overall health. To keep your eyes healthy, you should eat foods rich in certain vitamins and minerals. These vitamins and minerals are called antioxidants. Antioxidants help keep our cells and tissues healthy.
Tip #4: Wear sunglasses
Too much UV exposure boosts your chances of cataracts and macular degeneration. The right pair of shades will help protect your eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Now you can protect your eyes while making a fashion statement. Sunglasses can look good AND are very functional in protecting your eyes from harmful ultraviolet light! Go and treat yourself and your eyes.
Tip #5: Invest in artificial tears
Artificial tears are like moisturizers for your eyes. You would moisturize your skin to help prevent or improve dryness, so do the same for your eyes. Over-the-counter artificial tears can help prevent and relieve dry eyes. Use them even when your eyes feel fine to keep them well-lubricated and prevent a recurrence of symptoms.
