As of September 1st, 2023, there are some changes to the OHIP coverage for eye care services in Ontario. Here are the following updated coverages or CLICK HERE for more information:
Children aged 0 to 19 years: Covered every 12 months for a routine eye examination.
Seniors aged 65 and above: Covered every 18 months for a routine eye examination. If a patient has a particular medical/eye condition that is eligible under OHIP guidelines (click here for more information ) then the patient is covered every 12 months for a routine eye examination.
Adults aged 20 to 64 years: Not covered by OHIP unless a patient has a particular medical/eye condition that is eligible under OHIP guidelines (click here for more information) then the patient is covered every 12 months for a routine eye examination.
For patients without OHIP coverage, we conveniently accept most extended health providers. The following insurers are eligible for direct billing at our office:
OHIP provides coverage for eye care services for the following:
Children aged 0 to 19 years: An annual, full eye examination.
Seniors aged 65 and above: An annual, full eye examination.
Adults aged 20 to 64 years: Not covered by OHIP unless you have one of the following medical conditions: diabetes, glaucoma, cataract, retinal disease, amblyopia, visual field defects, corneal disease, strabismus, recurrent uveitis or optic pathway disease.
